AIS
AIS is a collision avoidance system that can also be used for tracking vessels. A number of providers aggregate AIS ‘feeds’ to give you a global view of vessel locations.
With AIS a particular vessel’s location can be wildly out of date, and the update frequency is too low to provide an accurate track.
